ISLAMABAD: Satirists are having a field day poking fun at Pakistani politicians, and President Pervez Musharraf, as always, is topping the charts.
In her weekly column Mush and Bush for the Friday Times , Jugnu Mohsin provides the usual mock conversations between Musharraf and his US counterpart George W Bush.
In one such article, Bush pretends he is unable to hear Musharraf on the phone while the Pakistani leader panics -- "Are you there? It's me, your most trusted ally. It's me, Pervez, your partner in war on terror, remember?"
Yet Bush can't hear "Mush". So Musharraf tells a close aide, " Dekho phone hee nahin utha raho aisay karo 200-300 jihadi Waziristan say Kabul bhej do (He is not taking the call. Send 200-300 jihadis from Waziristan to Kabul)."
That does the trick and Bush can finally hear Musharraf. "Actually, I was calling to ask if there are any nice retirement homes in Texas." Musharraf asks Bush. In a story datelined from "Musharrafabad", the satirical website thespoof.com went a step further and came up with an "out-of-the-box" solution for Musharraf's future.
"Since Musharraf was born in Delhi, in pre-Independence India, technically he could be considered Indian and therefore ought to be given asylum in India with the US footing the security bill," it said.
The report said, "Musharraf is hoping his US patrons will deliver a creative option allowing him to string the world along for a couple of months before he declares his third emergency and takes back, power."
