The nation mourns again

While the nation mourns over the loss of Benazir, they have been given another shock to put up with, which is Mr. Zardari becoming the Chairman of PPP. This is all owing to the will of Benazir (according to Mr. Zardari). Before Benazir’s death nobody knew of such a will, not even her close confidants like Makhdoom Amin Fahim and other trustworthy leaders who bled with her in both deadly attacks on her. Benazir nominating Mr. Zardari as chairman sounds like a joke because:

  • He was never within her circle of trust while negotiating the deal with Musharraf establishment;
  • He was never a part of Benazir’s election campaign;
  • To a great extent he was the reason to the fall of her governments;
  • He is involved in corruption cases both abroad and Pakistan;
  • He doesn’t get along well with other PPP leaders;
  • For last few years Mr. Zardari had been living in the US and away from home, and
  • The distance and friction between both has cost Mr. Zardari his political career, so much so that he was even denied party ticket to contest the upcoming elections

How could Benazir nominate such a person to be her successor whereas in her real life she maintained a distance from him in many ways?

A person who cared so less about Benazir that he even jeapardized her inquest by not going for her autopsy has now hijacked the PPP completely just because of this will of Benazir. The most surprising thing is that no PPP leader (even after knowing and being so close to Benazir) objected to such a will despite it being clearly obvious to common man that Benazir wanted Mr. Zardari, at least out of her political career entirely.
